Kyrgyzstan Women Shamans

Aigine Cultural Resource Center
WISN supported Kyrgyz women shamans in exploring the meaning of petroglyphs through ayans—prophetic dreams and visions—leading to a deeper exploration of Kyrgyz indigenous knowledge. These projects were initiated and led by women, who played key roles in their development and implementation. WISN’s support facilitated the integration of cultural spiritual practices into Aigine CRC’s research, resulting in richer interpretations of petroglyphs that reveal cosmological origins, ancestral messages, and spiritual practices. The involvement of Kyrgyz practitioners, including women shamans, has been essential in uncovering these multi-layered insights.

Aigine CRC has achieved preservation of the Kyrgyz dream interpretation tradition. Through meticulous collection and systematization of data from various knowledge bearers, guardians and elders and developed a unique ritualistic dream box – 120 dream cards, juniper candles, a yurt-shaped candle lamp, and Kyrgyz meditative music. The dream cards are now used as a tool for self-reflection and traditional psychotherapy in Kyrgyzstan.
