Around the world are places filled with mystery, sites that have layer upon layer of human interaction and culture embedded in them. Sites that preserve the world’s diversity. Sites like Chartres, France, where things come together – underground streams, black and white stone. Spring and cave are sacred because it is here that the dimensions of reality are most easily navigated, where knowledge, inspiration and attunement with life are attained.

Sixty miles southwest of Paris, lies the town of Chartres. It is famous for its thirteenth century, French Gothic Cathedral, Notre Dame de Chartres. Our Lady of Chartres has survived virtually intact through multiple wars including World War I and II. A UNESCO world heritage site, the cathedral is a wondrous kaleidoscope of 176 stained glass windows, archaeo-acoustic phenomena and an enormous forty-two foot pagan labyrinth embedded in the stone floor of its entry. Originally a bronze plaque embossed with a minotaur marked the centre, an echo of the original indigenous Carnute, Gaul people (500 BC to 500 AD) and their Druidic sacred site practitioners.

The Chartres Prayer cards reaffirm the ancient way, the exact moment that complementary pairs of opposites come into connection. With an image on one side and text on the other – the cards are like the human mind. Your tough brings together the hemispheres of the mind and dimensions of life into wholeness.
